Journey
Synth Peter is a South African electronic music producer and DJ from Rustenburg, North West, who has become a notable figure within the Afrikaans electronic and dance music scene. Emerging in the mid-2010s, he built his reputation through a distinctive fusion of high-energy EDM, Afrikaans lyrical culture, and club-driven synth production, often described as “doef-doef” style music rooted in South African party culture.
He first gained widespread attention with the viral breakout track “Doef Doef,” which introduced his playful, bass-heavy, and irreverent production style to a broader audience. This success led to further releases such as “Hier Om Te Dans,” “Brakke Blaf,” “Laat Dit Reën,” and “Boom Boom Waatlemoen,” many of which feature collaborations with artists from South Africa’s alternative and zef-inspired music spaces.
In 2020, Synth Peter released his debut album "Die Toekoms Is Synth," a project that helped establish his identity as a forward-thinking electronic artist blending nostalgic synth textures with modern dance production. The album received strong local streaming success and positioned him within the growing wave of Afrikaans electronic innovators.
His work is often characterized by cinematic synth layers, heavy basslines, humorous and energetic lyricism, and a strong focus on dancefloor impact. Synth Peter continues to represent the intersection of underground electronic experimentation and mainstream Afrikaans party music culture in South Africa.
